A Festival of Generations

Mythical stilt-walking acts, art exhibitions and inspiring concerts ranging from tango to classics – with over 3000 individual events, the Federal Horticultural Show Koblenz 2011 has a season of dazzling entertainment in store. Every day, in addition to the changing themed exhibitions in the flower halls and outdoor sites, visitors can enjoy a varied programme of music, theatre and lecture events on the numerous stages and performance spaces. The Federal Horticultural Show Koblenz 2011 will be a forum for artists from near and far, for professionals and amateurs alike. Families are invited to experience the Federal Horticultural Show Koblenz 2011 with all five senses by taking part in a host of join-in activities and workshops. And there are lots more play opportunities for young and old: an adventure climbing area at the fortress, a royal playground at the palace, not to mention the fascinating world of water at the Blumenhof. The “Colourful Classroom” offers a knowledge base where school children can discover a mass of interesting facts.

    Associations and organisations from all the regions of Rhineland-Palatinate offer music, culture and historical performances.
  • Mondays: BUGA in motion!
    Join in various sport programmes.
  • Tuesdays: Rhineland-Palatinate police orchestra
    Pop music and enthralling swing is o! ered on an alternating basis.
  • Tuesdays: Military music
    Various music bands will play diverse military music during the holidays.
  • Wednesdays: Day of city quarters
    Each Wednesday, a new quarter of Koblenz is presented.
  • Thursdays: Sport in sight
    From trendy to traditional types of sports – for watching and playing along.
  • Thursdays: “R(h)einPuls“ (Pure pulsating Rhine)
    Final note of the day with small concerts, vaudeville or comedy events.
  • Thursdays/Fridays: “Spot on...“
    Young bands from Koblenz and the region show what they can do.
  • Saturdays:
    Excellent events such as concerts, theatre, opera evenings and dance performances.
  • Sundays: Dancing tea at the castle
    On every other Sunday from May to September, a salon ensemble plays for dancing tea under open skies.
  • 30 dates: “30 years - 30 days of Cafe Hahn“
    Cafe Hahn will present a cross section of its programme on 30 days for its anniversary.

  • 15-17 April: Opening weekend
    A colourful programme, including Power Percussion and Heavy Tones, feat. Max Mutzke.
  • 6-7 May: Opening of the Rhineland-Palatinate cultural summer
    A large cultural celebration with street theatre, music groups and much more.
  • 6-15 May: Light fluxes
    The “BUGA light fluxes” immerse the Ehrenbreitstein fortress in new light for the nightly discovery tours.
  • 13-15 May: Rhineland-Palatinate literature days
    Readings for all age groups and tastes.
  • 24-25 June: International Gymnaestrada “BUGA Gym 2011“
    Over 5,000 athletes present the entire range of gymnastic sports.
  • 3 July: ARD-Buffet day hiking
    Various hiking trips and the LIVE broadcasting of the Ehrenbreitstein fortress with moderators and experts from the service magazine in ERSTEN (FIRST) (reservation required).
  • 15 July: SWR on tour
    The most popular entertainment broadcast by SWR television with Martin Seidler will bring the SWR Big Band with the Höhner and Bibi Jones to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress.
  • 20 August: Science Fiction film concert
    Film music concert with the German Rhineland-Palatinate statephilharmonic. Moderator: Herbert Feuerstein.
  • 3 September: SWR4 summer festival
    The largest pop music festival in Rhineland-Palatinate. Stars – fun – excitement for the entire family! On the open air stage: DJ Ötzi & Band, Semino Rossi and much more.
  • 16 September: SWR1 Night Fever Party
    Dancing, shaking and celebrating till midnight with Shebeen and DJ Michael Lueg. Special Guest: Sydney Youngblood.
