Good planning is essential

A lot of ideas and planning have gone into the preparation of the Federal Horticultural Show 2011. At an early stage, the exhibition’s creators defined the show’s guiding themes as: “Water”, “Rhine Romanticism” “Fortress”, “UNESCO World Heritage” and “Europe”. In 2006, a large-scale design competition was held at the end of which a panel of experts singled out the best concepts. With their prize-winning ideas experienced planning consultants “rmp Stephan Lenzen Landschaftsarchitekten” and “die3” (Bonn), together with local Koblenz architects “von Canal”, have created the basic planning framework for the Federal Horticultural Show 2011.

Clear, Cost-Effective, Koblenz – the winning design, which will serve as a basis for all further planning, promises sensitive implementation and careful adaptation to the historical context of the exhibition sites. The plan is feasibility-oriented and reconciles the requirements of a federal horticultural show with the historical roots of the venue. Apart from questions of design, there are also the tangible requirements of travel connections and town planning to be considered. The Federal Horticultural Show Koblenz 2011 will be taking place in the direct vicinity of the historic centre of Koblenz.A sophisticated traffic management concept to include the temporary aerial cable car connecting the inner city core areas with the fortress plateau will thus be put in place to regulate the influx of visitors and ensure that the event goes as smoothly as possible.
