Koblenz changes
Koblenz in bloom

One concept

“Koblenz changes” is the slogan of the Federal Horticultural Show and the planners have integrated this central theme into the design of the three different exhibition areas. In their conceptual restructuring model, the designers differentiate between core and transitional areas. The three enclosed core areas - the Electoral Palace, the Blumenhof and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress – will be the venues for floral displays, exhibitions and events during the Federal Horticultural Show. As freely accessible transitional areas, the riverside walks along the Rhine and Moselle will also be transformed into premium open spaces. In the same way, an area of tiered stone seating is being created behind the Palace which will allow visitors to go right down to the river’s edge. It will transform the whole waterfront into an attractive promenade.

Three core areas – one underlying concept. The individual elements of the Federal Horticultural Show in Koblenz reflect the town’s unique location and history. This is a place where two major rivers meet and European borders now unite rather than divide; a place where thousands of years of mankind’s heritage are visible at every turn. To do justice to these characteristics, the plans embody the following key elements: water, Europe, Rhine romanticism and UNESCO World Heritage. In every zone the designers have spaces at their disposal which, for decades now, have been sadly lacking in allure. Their appearance will be permanently changed, allowing residents to experience them in an entirely new way – thus, a nondescript car park will be transformed into a vibrant sea of flowers and a modest back yard reborn as a magnificent rose garden.

Koblenz changes – everywhere there’s plenty waiting to be discovered and admired.
