One Exhibition – Three Sites

The site of the Federal Horticultural Show 2011 in Koblenz comprises three individual core areas for exhibitions and showcase attractions. It stretches from the Electoral Palace to the Blumenhof courtyard between the old town and Deutsches Eck and ends at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. All three core areas will remain as permanent features after 2011, enhancing the town with attractive recreational spaces. The spectacular aerial cable car across the Rhine will be a unique connecting element, linking the core areas on both sides of the river.

Take a Princely Promenade – the Electoral Palace

The newly designed core area around the Electoral Palace with its uninterrupted view of the Rhine is the perfect place to relax and feast one’s eyes on the luxuriant splendour of thousands of flowers and blossoms. During the Federal Horticultural Show Koblenz 2011 the garden will provide a flowering backdrop for a host of activities and events. In future, the Palace and its garden, covering an area of almost 9 hectares, will be one of the town’s major visitor attractions and is set to become a popular meeting place for all Koblenz’ residents.  more…

Spaces of Tranquility and Culture – the Blumenhof at Deutsches Eck

The three gardens which form the Blumenhof will offer unique experiential environments.They are enclosed by the Ludwig Museum, Deutsches Eck and St. Castor’s Church and together they form an oasis of quietude and retreat. The sculpture courtyard is a haven of creative horticultural design and sculpture, whereas the other two gardens laid out around new water features display plants and flowers from biblical mythology. The action space at Deutsches Eck will be a forum for a multitude of cultural events related to the themes water, Europe, community and cultural interchange.  more…

Looking Further Afield – Ehrenbreitstein Fortress

The largest core area is the plateau of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress which is enthroned high above the valley, enchanting visitors with its breathtaking views of the Rhine, the Moselle and the town. An invitingly spacious landscaped park is being created on this site. Besides the exhibition halls and the Federal Horticultural Show´s main stage, the Ehrenbreitstein plateau will also offer a wide variety of horticultural treats.

Making Connections through Change – the Transitional Areas

The newly created transitional spaces are integral parts of the whole plan and form an effective support framework around the core areas of the Federal Horticultural Show.
